CCB hosts conference by Andr\u00e9 Lepecki: “The Dispute for Movement: Necro-politics, Necro-aesthetics, and the Non-Time of Struggle”<\/p>\n
On March 30th at 6:30 pm, the Centro Cultural de Bel\u00e9m (CCB) will host a conference by Andr\u00e9 Lepecki entitled “The Dispute for Movement: Necro-politics, Necro-aesthetics, and the Non-Time of Struggle” in the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andersen Room.<\/p>\n
In this talk, Lepecki will explore movement as a fundamental political substance, focusing on recent performances by artists mayfield brooks and Sara Cameron Sunde. He will also discuss how the concept of movement has become a central point of contention during the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly in relation to the idea of freedom.<\/p>\n
Drawing on critical theory by Denise Ferreira da Silva, Michelle Wright, and Sylvia Wynter, Lepecki will argue that these disputes over movement can help us rethink the foundations of what we understand as “time,” and propose a new framework for a “coreopolitics without time.”<\/p>\n
Andr\u00e9 Lepecki is an essayist and independent curator based in New York, and a Professor and Director of the Department of Performance Studies at New York University. He has edited several anthologies on dance and performance theory, and has directed festivals and created projects for various institutions worldwide. Lepecki is also the author of “Exhausting Dance: performance and the politics of movement” and “Singularities: dance in the age of performance.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
