The Museum of Fado in Lisbon has opened a temporary exhibition honoring the legacy of the iconic Portuguese fado singer Celeste Rodrigues, who would have turned 100 years old on March 14, 2023. The exhibition includes her discography, repertoire, awards, performance props, periodicals, paintings, and films, and is curated by Diogo Varela Silva, her grandson.
As part of the celebration, the museum also launched a book that includes a QR code for two previously unreleased songs. Gaspar Varela and Pedro de Castro on Portuguese guitar, André Ramos on viola de fado, and Francisco Gaspar on bass viola will perform at the inauguration of the exhibition.
Celeste Rodrigues, who passed away at the age of 95, was a central figure in the history of fado, a genre of music that combines music and poetry to convey a feeling of melancholy and nostalgia.
